Trust In Your Skills

Learning is a Life Long Journey

We’ve all felt that twinge of uncertainty, embarrassment or doubt when we embark on a new adventure in unfamiliar territory. We look at others progress and immediately compare ourselves...I am no stranger to this, however I’ve learned a few things that help bring me back to reality when I feel like I am being consumed by doubt.

First of all, no one is perfect. Even those we see as “professionals” or “experts” experience making mistakes  and errors. It’s a part of life and the growing process. We all have a starting point and stories of choices we whish would have been different. Don’t let yourself stall because of this. If you find yourself unsatisfied with or unhappy with the path you’ve started on, remember... you can always change your mind... nothing is permanent.

Learn to listen to your body and mind to really get an understanding on what brings your joy. If it’s something you’ve never done before, take a class and learn. Don’t get discouraged if it doesn't come naturally at first...consistency is the key to growth. Keep going, practice and learn.

At the end of the day, the only person who will live your life is you so in the end your opinion is the only one that matters when it comes to choosing how you want to spend your time. We all have different priorities, likes and dislikes. Learn to listen to yourself with kindness, understanding and patience remembering to hold space for yourself and remind yourself that sometimes your choices will require recalibrating.

I’ve always loved organizing, planning and optimizing...and do pretty well in those areas. But the skills I have now were not always there...some of them were tough and took years to master, but I kept at it. Looking back, I’ll admit I held myself back many times because I allowed others opinions to discourage me. Then I learned to view opinions through a different lens. Before I make any decisions influenced by someone else, I ask myself:

“Is this a person someone I admire and aspire to emulate or be like?”

If the answer is no, I simply move on, allowing their words to simply fall away.

If I do, I look at the qualities  / skills I admire and focus on developing my own plan to learn how to incorporate them in my own journey, personalizing and adjusting them to fit my needs and wants. Stay inspired, inspiration is a choice we need to make everyday to move forward.

Remember, to pause every once in a while and bask in all that you’ve accomplished up until this very moment.

Happy Growing!
